AUTHOR OF THE SHADOWVEIL SERIES

About Brian E. Nason

I was born in Derry, New Hampshire, but spent most of my life in San Diego,

California. As I was growing up, my family would take two road trips per year.

During those long car rides, I would fill the time by either reading from my growing

collection of books, or by telling stories to my siblings using my paddock of stuffed

animals as characters in an ever-evolving world of imagination.

I left San Diego in 2002 to pursue a degree at the University of California, Irvine. By

the time my sophomore year ended, the stress from going to school full time while

holding a full time job had drained me. I had to find an escape. That’s when I started

to jot down short stories in margins of my papers. As I once did with my siblings, I

drew my inspiration from whatever was around me including my professors, my

fellow students, and my co-workers. There was a cathartic freedom in the inherent

creativity of writing, and it wasn’t long until the drained feeling disappeared.

In late 2004, I had a crazy idea to write a book. My goal was to finish a small story

that I would enjoy reading in the course of an afternoon, but my crazy idea quickly

outgrew the frame of a simple book and the only way to contain it was to break

it into multiple parts.

For eight years I worked to build, shape, and refine my story. It was during that time

that my sister became my biggest fan. She devoured every chapter and would

encourage me to write more for her to read. It was her who finally convinced me

that my writing could hold its own against the world. Finally, in 2011, I ran out of

excuses to put it off. I finally focused my free time on finishing and perfecting this eight-year labor of love.

The first edition of THE SCEPTER AND THE SWORD was published in late August, 2012. By September of that year, I was already working on Book II. Eight months later, it was almost finished and just needed another round or two of editing, when I picked up Book I, read it through, and realized that it was not what I wanted it to be. I had rushed it to publish without making sure it was ready. I sat on that realization for many months until a respected friend confirmed my worst fear: Book I had many flaws that needed to be fixed.

I scrapped the original deadline for the second book so I could focus on going through Book I word-by-word, fixing all the errors I saw and raising the story to a level that I could be proud of. Now that the second edition of Book I: THE SCEPTER AND THE SWORD has been release, Book II: THE PRINCES OF GREENWOOD has entered its final stages of polishing and will be making its worldwide debut in the Summer of 2016.
